Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the Significance Balance mobile app. By installing or using the app you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
How your data is handled is a separate document: the privacy policy. It is part of these terms by reference, and where the two describe the same thing, the privacy policy is the more specific and governs.
Who provides the app
Significance Balance is provided by:
From Codes To World LLC
support@significancebalance.com
The same company is the controller named in the privacy policy. "We" and "us" below mean that company; "you" means the person using the app.
Who may use it
The app is for adults. It is not directed at children, and you may not use it if you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live if that is higher.
What the app is
Significance Balance is a self-assessment and coaching aid for relationships. You answer guided questions about a relationship stage, the app calculates a balance score from your answers, keeps your history on your device, and asks a language model for a written recommendation. Some features — deeper analytics, the weekly focus, export, and AI-personalised content — are available only with a subscription.
What the app is not
It is not therapy, medical care, psychological treatment or legal advice, and it is not a crisis service. The scores, the recommendations and everything the coach writes are informational. They are not a diagnosis, and they are not a professional's opinion on your situation.
Use your own judgement, and consult a qualified professional for anything that matters. If you or someone else is in danger, or you are thinking about harming yourself, contact your local emergency number or a crisis line immediately. The app cannot help with that and does not monitor what you write.
Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, subject to these terms and to the rules of the store you obtained it from. The app is licensed, not sold.
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app or any part of it;
- reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except so far as the law expressly permits despite this restriction;
- circumvent or attempt to circumvent the checks that gate the paid features, or use the app with a modified or tampered store client;
- access the app's backend by any means other than the app itself, or automate requests to it.
What you write
What you write in the app stays yours. Your profile, your context, your answers, your chat and your history are written to storage on your phone; we do not receive a copy of them. What is sent, and to whom, is set out in the privacy policy. You grant us only the permission needed to run the feature you asked for — no more.
You are responsible for what you write. Do not write anything unlawful, and think carefully before writing another person's details: the app is about a relationship, and the other person has not agreed to these terms.
AI-generated content
Recommendations, questions, coach replies and the other written content are produced by a third-party language model from the text the app sends it. Models get things wrong, and they can be confidently wrong. Nothing the model writes is reviewed by a person before you see it, and none of it is a statement of fact about you or your relationship.
The model is a third-party service, so it can be slow, rate-limited or unavailable. When that happens the feature says so; some features fall back to written-in-advance content instead.
Subscriptions, billing and cancellation
The paid features are sold as an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. The purchase is made with Apple or with Google, not with us. They take the payment, they hold the payment details, and their terms govern the transaction.
- The plan, its duration and its full price in your currency are shown on the purchase screen before you confirm.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Cancel in your store account settings — App Store subscriptions on iOS, Google Play subscriptions on Android — at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and the paid features stay available until that period ends.
- If a price changes, the store tells you and asks you to agree before the change takes effect.
- Refunds are handled by the store, under its policy. We cannot issue one. Your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected by this paragraph.
- Already subscribed on another device, or reinstalled the app? Use Restore on the subscription screen.
Availability and changes to the app
We do not promise that the app is available without interruption or free of errors. Features may be added, changed or withdrawn, and a feature that depends on a third-party service may stop working if that service does. If we withdraw a paid feature outright, you may cancel and the store's refund policy applies.
Disclaimer and liability
So far as the law allows, the app is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, and we are not liable for any decision you take about your relationship, your health or anything else on the strength of what the app shows you.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for intent or gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and under mandatory consumer-protection or product-liability law. Where liability for ordinary negligence can be limited, it is limited to damage that was foreseeable and typical for an agreement of this kind.
Apple and Google
Because the app is distributed through their stores, some terms are specifically about them.
Apple. You acknowledge that:
- these terms are between you and us alone, not between you and Apple, and we — not Apple — are responsible for the app and its content;
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app;
- if the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price; to the extent the law permits, Apple has no other warranty obligation at all, and any other claim, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense attributable to a failure to conform to a warranty is ours;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claim you or a third party makes about the app — product-liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer-protection or similar law included;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging any third-party claim that the app infringes that party's intellectual-property rights;
- you may not use the app if you are located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, or if you are on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right — and is deemed to have accepted it — to enforce these terms against you.
Google. Where you obtained the app from Google Play, the Google Play Terms of Service also apply to your download and to any purchase you make there, in addition to these terms.
Ending this agreement
You may end it at any time by cancelling any subscription and deleting the app; deleting the app erases the history it kept on your device. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms in a way that is serious or repeated, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it. The sections on your content, liability and governing law survive the end of this agreement.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, USA, and the courts of Illinois have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you still keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings in your own courts. We are neither obliged nor willing to take part in dispute-resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, this page changes with them and the date at the top moves. Material changes will also be announced in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting the new terms; if you do not accept them, cancel and stop using the app.
